Wonderful place, positive experiences & the lobby coffee bar is great too!
Nice modern church with good contemporary music but it seemed like a concert hall with rows and rows of seating and then a stage. No one greeted us but that was fine since it was busy. I recommend trying it out but also recommend trying out Grace Brethren in Owings for a different environment setting.
My daughter and I have been attending for approximately 8 months. While I've not quite enjoyed my experience at this church, my daughter loves the Children's Ministry. My experience has been that after the Get Connected class, some of the same leaders who introduced themselves and seemed so engaging have become inapproachable. I've served in a small capacity but find that making any real connections or bonds is difficult if you are not related to someone at the Church, fit a demographic, or are not from Calvert County. I will continue to attend to escort my daughter to her service and highly recommend for youth. It's difficult to fit into such a big church with such a quick service. It's like a drive thru worship experience. As for myself....I will continue to search within the community for a more down to earth group of people.
We are a military family that recently got stationed out in this area, bought a house in Huntingtown Maryland. We have been in search for church to call home. My husband had moved out here 2 months prior to try to get us settled and our home situation taken care of and also try to find us a church. He had tried Chesapeake Church two times, neither time was he greated, talk to or acknowledged. When the kids and I finally got out here I told him that maybe it was just some off days and that we would give it a try as a family, we got there 20 minutes early just to make sure we knew where we were going, get coffee and not be rushed. We stood up at the coffee bar for almost 10 minutes not being helped, having volunteer workers continuously passing, watching us stand there, yet not telling us that the coffee bar does not open until after all the services(nor regular members). Once we gave up we proceeded to go find seats. A greeter lady stomped in front of me put out her arm to block and said "you can't go in there" " I said oh I didn't know we are new" I was told that you are not allowed to go in early I asked if there was another service still going on she said no but you still cannot go in, this was said to me very rudely and unkind. I did not see any compassion or love in this church.I have gone to a lot of churches with being a military wife, we move a lot and we always make it a priority to find a Church to call home, yet I've never felt so unwelcome and God more further away than I did at this location.
Welcoming me immediately. Truly had friends by the time services started. Never had a church and their members put me at ease so quickly. Nice music and service. Touching me and teaching and comfortable corporate worship. I enjoyed my first and all the times since I started!
